7 mths. have come and gone!

At 7 mths. Charlie now weighs 19 lbs. 13 oz. He is sitting on his own, eating three meals a day, drinking 4 bottles of milk and experimenting with Puffs. He just recently started getting up on all fours, but hasn't made any motions on crawling. He laughs and smiles all of the time and is becoming super attached to his mommy and daddy. If we leave the room, he has a mini-meltdown. Patrick and I are loving every minute with our sweet, little boy!

Go Cowboys!

Charlie was dressed and ready for Monday Night Football...

Thank God the Cowboys won.... Charlie would have been devastated!

What do you do with a sick baby all week?

Practice holding the bottle by ourself (notice the Pedialyte)

Play with toys and then disinfect them!

Lay him on a towel so poo can't get onto the floor (doesn't he look pitiful?)

Have him help with laundry!

Charlie's up, Jen and Patrick are down

Charlie is feeling much better. He has kept everything down since 3pm on Monday and didn't run any fever yesterday. But, he still has diarrhea, so we are having to keep him home. I was supposed to go to work today, so we arranged for Ann (Babo) to watch him, but then the bug hit me last night during dinner. Patrick had it yesterday, but his fever broke overnight and he is doing much better. When Patrick dropped Charlie off at the Allen's he discovered that they both have it, as well. Great! So, that now makes 10 people have gotten this bug by being in contact with young Charlie... the triplets, Aunt Jennifer, Jay and his girlfriend, Genna, Patrick, myself, and now Ann and Bob. (SO SORRY TO ALL OF YOU!!) Makes me wonder where Charlie picked it up from!

They're ALL sick...

I'm just copying and pasting my sister's blog entry about the triplets because it is exactly what is going on in our household at the moment:

"Ugh, we have our first stomach bug. I took the babies to Dallas this weekend to visit with Charlie and Nana, Papa, Uncle Jay, Jenna (girlfriend to Jay, but Cooper is trying to steal her away), and Aunt Jennifer. Meanwhile, Jen and I went for a very fun weekend at Camp Fern with our camp girls. When we were about half way to Marshall from Dallas, my mom called and told us Charlie was throwing up. He continued to throw up that day, yesterday, and today. He has a doctors appointment this afternoon.

Despite the babysitters' best efforts to keep the triplets seperate from Charlie, all three threw up their first bottles this morning. Isabelle has now vomitted 4 times, Sophia twice, and Cooper just that once. They don't have fever and are just a little irritable. But the puke has gone on every single baby apparatus we have, so its just been a mess. Of course, Manny is home with them and hating life and I am at work hating that I can't be there to care for my sickies.

We have spoken with our doctors office and the plan is to give pedialyte- 10 mls every 10 min for 4 hours or until 4 hours have past after they last vomitted. From there we will try an ounce of formula every 20 minutes, and up it as tolerated. If they are still vomitting tomorrow, and I expect they will be, then the doctor might want to see them. It might also depend on what Charlie's doctor says today. Poor babies. I just hope its over with within 24-48 hours as our doctor expects."

Apparently it is going around (according to the busy doctors office). Charlie's temp was 104.5 while there, so we are rotating Motrin and Tylenol like crazy. I am about to disinfect the whole house because of all the sick baby germs everywhere. Gross! Thank you to mom and Ann for all of your help today (and to all of our babysitters this weekend). I would have never left town if I knew this is what was going to go down! Like Julie said, hopefully we are on our way to recovery!

Charlie loves older women...

Charlie got to meet Lydia and Mary Bolz a couple of months ago. Apparently Lydia (age 3) was very intrigued with him and would ask things like "Mr. Patrick, may I hold Charlie now?" and "Mr. Patrick, I would like to hold Charlie standing up now." Such great manners! (And, no, he didn't let her hold him standing up.)

Charlie's growing up...

Sitting up to play with his toys

Eating dinner in his hook-on highchair

Big Boy carseat (this one is in my car and the infant one is in Patrick's... this makes drop-offs and pick-ups much easier at daycare)

Sitting in the BOB (he no longer has to be in his carseat)

Look who I got to babysit last weekend...

My favorite neices and nephew! I flew up to OKC on Friday and Julie and I went to the Sugarland concert (which was AWESOME!). I played with the trio on Saturday morning while Juls went to a Jr. League committment. Thanks for having me up Leclercq family!

My New Eyes (Patrick Post)

I am writing this blog post with pretty limited/blurry vision of the computer screen, please excuse any typos.

I recently had PRK (photo-refractive keratotony) surgery on both of my eyes. PRK is a laser eye surgery that is similar to Lasik in that it is also a laser corrective eye surgery. With Lasik, the surgeon will cut a flap in your cornea to correct your vision, whereas with PRK he/she simply does some “surface molding” to your cornea with the laser. So from a surgical standpoint, it is a much less invasive (ie much safer) procedure. The downside of PRK is that it is a more painful procedure with a longer recovery.

I began wearing glasses in the seventh grade when I could no longer see the chalkboard or overhead projector at school. I never liked wearing glasses, but the confluence of my vision becaming worse and turning sixteen and getting my driver’s license, I needed to have corrective lenses at all times. So from the age of sixteen until now, I have worn contact lenses.

Tired of spending a couple hundred dollars everytime I needed a new set of contacts and constantly having to update my prescriptions, I was pretty motivated to get Lasik surgery if I ever had extra money. Admittedly, I knew pretty minimal details about the surgery, other than it is a quick process and you have 20/20 vision by the day after your surgery. I entered this process with the intent of having Lasik, but on my consultation with my surgeon, Dr. McCall of Cornea Associates (www.corneatexas.com), he highly recommended PRK instead of Lasik because of pretty major astigmatisms in both of my eyes.

I have known about the astigmatisms in my eyes for quite some time. How the astigmatism primarily affected me was that my night vision has always been pretty sensitive; car and traffic lights would typically appear to have a halo of light around them.

With Lasik surgery, most people will tell you they wake up the next day and have 20/20 vision with little to no side effects. Unfortunately for me, PRK has been a much more tedious process in regaining my vision. It has almost been two weeks since my surgery and my vision continues to be two steps forward, one and half steps back. I am continuing to put preservative-free lubricant drops in my eyes about six hundred times a day, as the surgery has left them very dry. I usually start out each day pretty strong, and my vision gets progressively worse as the day goes on and my eyes get more and more dry.

The recovery process is expected to typically take about 30 days to have full vision. From my post-op appointments with Dr. McCall and my follow-up appointments with my optometrist, Dr. Garza at Dallas Eye Care (www.dallaseyecare.com), everything is going as expected, if not ahead of schedule. The doctors have estimated that I will have better than 20/20 vision at the end of the recovery.

As I said to Jennifer the other night, there is never really an ideal time to not be able to see, so it’s been pretty frustrating with my vision going in and out for the last couple weeks. Ask me how I’m feeling in another 2.5 weeks. My hope is that this will be a distant memory once I have full vision at the end of this recovery.

If anyone has any questions or has considered having laser eye surgery, feel free to email or call me with any questions on the process.

Hangin with Hank

Charlie's new favorite person is Hank. He reaches for him anytime he walks by and pets him everytime is laying near. Luckily, Hank loves Charlie just as much... especially when I am feeding Charlie. Hank Likes to lick all of the mess off of Charlie's face and hands!
